भारतीय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग प्राधिकरण का गठन भारतीय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग अधिनियम, 1988 के तहत राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों के विकास, अनुरक्षण और प्रबंधन को ध्यान में रखते हुए किया गया। भारतीय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग प्राधिकरण को अन्य छोटी परियोजनाओं सहित, राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग विकास परियोजना (National Highways Development Project-NHDP) का कार्य सौंपा गया है। आपको बता दें, राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग विकास परियोजना भारत में प्रमुख राजमार्गों को उच्च स्तर पर उन्नत, पुनर्व्यवस्थित और चौड़ा करने की एक परियोजना है। इस परियोजना की शुरुआत वर्ष 1998 में की गई थी।
राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग क्या होते हैं
भारत में प्रमुख सड़कें राष्ट्रीय और राज्य राजमार्ग हैं। राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों (NH) का निर्माण, वित्तपोषण और रख-रखाव केंद्र सरकार द्वारा किया जाता है जबकि राज्य राजमार्गों (SH) संबंधी कार्य राज्यों के लोक निर्माण विभाग द्वारा किये जाते हैं। सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) मुख्य रूप से राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों के विकास और रख-रखाव के लिये उत्तरदायी है।
प्रतिदिन 30 किमी से अधिक बन रहे हैं हाईवे
भारत सरकार ने वर्ष 2017 से प्रतिदिन 30 कि.मी. राजमार्ग का निर्माण करने लक्ष्य निर्धारित किया था, अर्थात देश में प्रतिवर्ष 11 हजार कि.मी. राजमार्ग का निर्माण किया जा रहा है। इस बात से अनुमान लगाया जा सकता है, कि देश में राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों का विकास कितनी तीव्र गति से किया जा रहा है |
भारत में कुल कितने राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग हैं ?
भारत में राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों (Nation Highway) की संख्या 200 से अधिक है। ये नेशनल हाईवे भारतीय सड़कों का मात्र 1.8 प्रतिशत भाग है परन्तु यह देश के लगभग 40 प्रतिशत ट्राफिक को कम करते है | यदि हम भारत के सबसे बड़े नेशनल हाईवे की बात करें, तो इसका नाम NH 44 (NH-44) है, जो जम्मू और कश्मीर में श्रीनगर को देश के दक्षिणी भाग में स्थित तमिलनाडु के कन्याकुमारी को जोड़ता है, इस राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग की कुल दूरी 3 हजार 745 कि.मी. है।
